About the role
The Registered Nurse (RN) in Community Nurses Australia (CNA) delivers safe compassionate clinical care; working collaboratively with the team to achieve best practice patient outcomes. The RN engages in reflective, analytical practice through effective assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of direct person-centered care.
A registered nurse:
a) Provides nursing services within the community setting.
b) Demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by registration requirements, nursing and midwifery board of Australia (NMBA) standards and codes, educational preparation, relevant legislation and context of care.
Autonomy
A Registered Nurse:
• Practices independently and interdependently.
• Assumes accountability and responsibility for own actions and delegation of care.
• Demonstrates evidence of increasing autonomy and exercises greater levels of professional judgement in the clinical environment as the employee moves from a beginning to an experienced practitioner.

Purpose of the role

Provide contemporary evidence-based person focused care, in collaboration with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate optimal health outcomes for the recipients of care services and undertake delegated activities while assuming individual accountability for actions within the position and context of practice.

Context of the role
a) This role reports directly to the Managing Director of CNA.
b) This role will work directly with staff within the Community, those employed by CNA and in collaboration with other organisations contributing to the holistic care of the person.
c) Responsible for own activities and for delegation of activities to others.

Key Accountabilities

The successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.

a) Apply clinical nursing expertise, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to deliver a high standard of person-centered care.
b) Respond appropriately to sudden alterations in the health status of the person using comprehensive nursing assessment and intervention skills.
c) Provide teaching to both persons and their families to facilitate learning and enable them to move towards independence.
d) Support an evidence-based learning environment and participate in learning
activities/opportunities for self and others.
e) Participate in performance and development planning activities.
f) Integrate organisational policies and guidelines with professional standards by maintaining current knowledge and participating in relevant policy review.
g) Demonstrate commitment to continuous quality improvement and best practice principles to optimise person centered care and organisational outcomes.
h) Demonstrate clinical skills and problem-solving relevant to the care of person within the CNA.
i) Consult with others in delegation activities, and contribution to effective clinical care outcomes and the maintenance of a safe of environment.
j) Utilise communication processes and systems which enhance person centered care delivery and CNA functioning.
k) Practice collaboratively within the interprofessional health care team (both internal and external to CNA) to promote the safety, security and personal integrity of individuals and groups.
l) Undertake, and participate in ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals.
m) Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations, and standards which impact upon the position such as workplace health and safety, and anti-discrimination policies.

Mandatory qualifications/professional registration/other requirements

a) Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse (RN). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the manager prior to any offer of employment.

d) CPR Certificate
e) First Aid certificate
f) A motor vehicle is required perform the role and as such, you must have your own current ‘C’ class license and a road worthy vehicle with full comprehensive insurance.

g) Whilst not mandatory, previous experience working in community setting is desirable.
h) Whilst not mandatory, previous experience in wound care, catheter care, IDC and SPC insertion, insulin administration, PEG changes and care, Bowel care, Dementia care, Continence assessment, application of compression bandaging is highly desirable. (Required training will be provided for the successful candidate)
i) Whilst not mandatory, previous experience working with palliative care patients is desirable.
j) It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment:
• Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
• Varicella (chicken pox)
• Pertussis (whooping cough)
• Hepatitis B
• Tuberculosis
k) It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19
